New Publication: At-Home Exercise Reduces Depressive Symptoms, Especially in Those with High Levels of Depression

A study led by Dr. Puterman was recently published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. The researchers used the mobile exercise application, DownDog, to provide at-home exercises to Canadians during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the use of Yoga and High-Intensity Interval Training, individuals experienced reduced depressive symptoms. Effects were even larger in those with high depressive symptoms at baseline. This suggests that at-home exercise is a potent behaviour to improve mental health in adults during the pandemic, especially in those with increased levels of depressive symptoms.
